Glen Kerran Farmhouse
During your adventure let our home become yours!
Tranquil Farm guesthouse with horses, farm animals & wildlife in view from every window. Wilder Ways horse-riding adventures also offer our own accommodation for you to enjoy at our secluded farm at Glen Kerran, in the far south of Kintyre. You will stay at our 150-year old, traditional stone farmhouse in one of four, country-styled bedrooms. There are stunning views across the glen from every room, often with horses grazing just outside the window. As well as your room there is a comfortable shared sitting area downstairs with games and DVDs and the beautiful glass dining-room with tea and coffee always available. |
Your tasty, home-cooked meals are made from fresh, locally-sourced ingredients, including an increasing amount of our own produce. You can enjoy the views while you eat in the glass room, a gorgeous timber and glass space that looks south across the fields.
Glen Kerran is an ideal spot from where to explore the tip of Kintyre, from the golden, sandy beaches at Southend and Machrihanish and the fascinating caves of Davaar Island, to the cliffs and lighthouse at the ‘Mull’; the very south-western tip of Scotland. There are some amazing walks around the peninsula including the ‘Kintyre Way’ a long-distance footpath that stretches from the tip of Kintyre to Tarbert and beyond. If you are a bird-watcher, Kintyre is a hotspot for sea-birds and migrants and our own little glen boasts hen harrier, barn owls, kingfisher and the occasional eagle, often seen from the breakfast room!

The Food
Breakfast
Breakfast is served at 8.30am each morning – you are on holiday – so slow down and enjoy a leisurely lie-in. Every morning we serve up a different cooked breakfast special, in addition to fruit, cereal and toast which is always available. We truly believe that breakfast is one of the most important meals of the day (in fact we personally sometimes have 2 breakfasts) to set us up for our adventures. So, we encourage you to eat heartily in the morning, and our options are also pretty healthy. Much of the breakfast fodder comes fresh off the farm, including all eggs, bacon, sausages and even the salad leaves, tomatoes, mushrooms and herbs in the right season, though we are sadly yet to master growing avocados or oranges in Scotland. If you need an earlier breakfast due to your travel requirements, we can set out a ‘continental style’ breakfast for you in the Glass room so that you can help yourself. Lunches During our trail riding adventure days, you will carry a packed lunch to have out on the hoof with your steed in the wilds. These include rolls, snacks, hot and cold drinks and will be tailored to any dietary requirements. During Archery and Jumping days you will return to the farmhouse for a sit-down lunch to suit the season and the weather, which might be salads and homemade quiche, or a hearty hot soup and homemade bread. On your non-horsey adventure days, lunch will be had out and about from local cafes or other providers. Evening Meals Dinner is served at 7pm every night. Five nights per week, dinners are served in the Glass room at the Farm. These 2-course meals are on a set menu basis and are founded on Nikki & Cara’s personal love of food. They serve you a creative blend of recipes using much of our own produce and other great local products in a fusion of Asian and firm Scottish favourites. Two nights per week our kitchen is ‘on strike’ so guests will sample other local gastronomic delights at the Ardshiel Hotel, complete with its award-winning whisky bar, or the superb No 42 with its finest Scottish beef and exquisite local seafood. Hot drinks & Snacks There are facilities for making hot drinks available in the Glass room at all times, along with a few wee snacks in case you get peckish between meals, so please do help yourself. |
