Well, that was a strange year - who could have predicted that - an adventure nonetheless!
After enjoying our first big family Christmas at the farm, we were looking forward to full season ahead. We started the year busy developing our horse-back archery products and completing our coaching qualifications. We even squeezed in a quick training trip to Bulgaria before the world turned upside down. Then lock down struck. A mere 3 week blip we all thought…
Processing months of cancellations was unbelievably demoralising – but your understanding and compassion lifted our spirits. So, after the initial tears and tantrums, we set about making the most of this gift of time. We threw all our efforts into the farm and spent hours digging to create a new vegetable garden, pond and patio. Spring was kind to us, we had a great lambing and even decided to put a few mares into foal and get a few pigs. It was sad not to travel to Knoydart – first time in 5 years – but was lovely to really nest at the farm and make it home.

July saw the start of a short, fast and furious season. We were so grateful for all of you who made the huge efforts to still come to us despite the uncertainty. But it was over in a flash and suddenly we were soon staring down the barrel of another winter. A ‘frugal’ 2020 season left us forced to set back our winter plans to develop an indoor arena, which was another massive blow. This time it was our young Wildlings that picked up our mood and we continued through the winter running our weekend Saddle Club – their hardy enthusiasm shining through the winter weather. And to finish off the year, we did what all horse-a-holics do when they need cheering up…we acquired a new pony, baby Martha!
We cannot look back on 2020 without a massive thank you to our Wildlings. The support you have shown us has been truly humbling. We have missed our usual pop-up this year, but have relished in bedding down our roots and getting to know our most loyal and local Wildlings better.
So, this years’ thank you goes out to YOU! Those who valiantly made it here in 2020; those who still wait eagerly and patiently; those who made new bookings, acquired vouchers or merchandise to help us keep going; those cheering us up with your messages and wishes through this crazy year; and all of you for managing disappointment with understanding and compassion and for working so hard all year to keep everyone safe.
Wildlings, we THANK YOU, you rock!
So, 2021, let’s be having you – we are ready for some epic and long overdue adventure now please!
