What is Slow Adventure?
Slow Adventure is an exciting movement for the adventurous voyagers amongst us. It proudly recognises that some of us want more than a quick thrill-seeking jump into the abyss. Yes, we want our hearts to race with wonder and sing with delight, but we also want time to treasure life’s journey and its intriguing characters along the way. After all; Life is a journey … not a destination.
Would you like an adventure that ...
Would you like an adventure that ...
- immerses you in a wilderness and leaves you utterly inspired by the beauty of nature?
- takes you on a journey through breath-taking landscapes, both natural and cultural?
- creates memories through time to mindfully experience a place, its traditions and people?
- leaves your senses heightened by a comfort crafted throughout the entire experience?
A Wilder Ways Slow Adventure
The ethos of Slow Adventure is at the core of Wilder Ways. We are passionate about accessing the wilderness and its treasures. We are committed to building confidence in horses and riders through adventure and play, always pushing the boundaries and delivering a few wee surprises.
Our other great passions are food, self-sufficiency, storytelling and skills sharing. So, our adventures always allow time to enjoy home-grown, delicious local food and share stories of adventures in self-sufficiency; turns out lard makes better soap and Christmas pudding than candles. We also nurture opportunities to share learning; be it our Nikki showing you how to navigate the open hill by the plants under your hooves, or you teaching us your National Anthem…mountains have magnificent acoustics and hooves create a great beat!
During our adventures you will be immersed in a glorious horse-back journey through the natural and cultural landscapes we explore. We will take time to discover experiences that will form lasting memories, be it the first time you ever swam with a horse, or stood proudly with your stead on a pinnacle watching eagles soar.
Our adventures take only memories (and perhaps a few photos) and leave only a few hoofprints.

The Slow Adventure story so far…
Wilder Ways involvement in this project began with the initial meetings run by a dedicated SAINT team at UHI, Fort William who pulled together a ‘pilot group’ of like-minded businesses in the Lochaber area. The enthusiasm of this group for authentic, immersive adventure experiences buzzed from day one.
We are proud to be part of this growing movement which is now, in Scotland, developing the first members owned Tour Operator co-operative, Slow Adventure Cooperative Limited, allowing us as small businesses to collaboratively deliver our own innovative itineraries to the market. It is the integrity and authenticity of these itineraries, and the grass roots connection of buying directly from the people you will actually encounter on your adventure, which makes the Slow Adventure products so unique.
Our Co-op has now been officially formed and a new member of administrative staff employed. The Co-op will therefore be working towards Slow Adventure products hitting the market through a dedicated website in 2018. Please visit www.slowadventure.scot for more information.
In the meantime, a selection of Slow Adventure products are already available from the individual providers – including Wilder Ways of course. For information on the other Slow Adventures available please visit www.slowadventure.scot for the initial online brochure.
