May & June (Deferred to 2022)Wilder Ways return to the Knoydart peninsula, Scotland’s last true wilderness.
In the spring, the Wilder Ways team will be heading off grid to Scotland’s last true wilderness in the west, Knoydart. Although still on the mainland, this isolated peninsula in the West Highlands is accessible only by boat, even for the horses, (or a 2-day scramble for the really adventurous!) There is no road access.

The landscape is breath-taking with mountain scenery that includes four of the Munros (mountains over 3000ft) for which walkers and climbers flock to the area.
The view changes with each bend in the path, from high crags and peaks to deep rivers and stony fords. Around the coast are spectacular views out to 'The Small Isles', Rum, Eigg and Skye and of course, the moody and ever changing sky-scape.
As well as the fabulous riding, there are a good variety of other activities. Minch Adventures offer a natural boating experience with a personal touch that takes you out into the sea between Knoydart and Skye, one of the top whale watching destinations in Europe. They'll take you fishing, diving or just drop you off somewhere really wild. Or charter the Calanna to take you on a more leisurely cruise. You can also hire a mountain bike from Knoydart Foundation at Inverie or just wander at will and do some wildlife watching as you go. |
The history of Knoydart is a fascinating microcosm of the story of the Scottish Countryside with records dating back to the 12th Century and a blood-stained canvas of old clan wars, cruel and absentee landlords, evictions, emigrations to America and finally a community buyout at the turn of the Millennium. The imposing monuments in the hills give testimony to past religious fervour and a maritime past.
A good source of information about this area is Visit Knoydart which gives you details of how to get there, what to do, where to eat and local events. We always receive outstanding hospitality on Knoydart and are collaborating closely with local businesses and the community at large to deliver this ultimate adventure. Luxury accommodation and exquisite and unique dining experiences await you. |
