Our Treks are designed to provide a condensed adventure opportunity. We offer half day or full day treks. These are not your typical ‘pony treks’, they are riding explorations tailored to your ability and aspirations. See Who enjoys a Trek below to see if this is the right adventure for you – Families – Confidence Building (rider or horse) – Groups – Advanced Riders – Intermediate Riders – Beginner/Novice Riders.
Our treks run throughout our season, March to October, and across all of our locations. Treks run in between our specified Riding Holidays so are subject to availability in this regard. See our calendar below for an overview.

Who enjoys a Trek?
Families: Are you on a family holiday and looking for an exciting outdoor activity which the whole family can enjoy together? Sit back and relax taking in stunning scenery from the lovely perspective of horseback. This exhilarating yet peaceful mode of transport allows you to chat amongst yourselves as you go and enjoy some quality family time whilst exploring the natural and cultural heritage of the area.
Confidence Building (rider or horse): At Wilder Ways we take great pride, fulfilment and joy in being in the very privileged position to offer opportunities for confidence building. We work hard with our horses to ensure they are confident and trust us implicitly. This not only allows us to take them into the remote and challenging places we do, but also means they are fantastic at supporting the development of others… riders and other horses alike.
Maybe you have had a long break from riding (kids or careers have absorbed your time) or have had a scare and want to get back in that saddle and again enjoy everything that you once loved about horses. We recommend that you join us on an initial half day ride. We would then love to see you back on one of our special holidays. These nurturing adventures will be full of fun and laughter, gently pushing you out of your comfort zone just enough to grow and gain confidence.

If you are a horse owner, these sessions are also available to you. We have worked with a number of riders on their own horses to develop horse confidence and deal with some particular issues (i.e. getting horse into water/over obstacles, spook proofing etc). For more information on this, please see some of our previous Case Studies. Please contact us if you would like to discuss your horse or particular requirements to see if this is a good option for you.

Groups: Horse riding is a really fun group activity whether you are looking for a team building activity (i.e. University group or other sports’ club), a corporate day out or are celebrating a special occasion (i.e. Birthday/Hen Party). We limit our rides to 6 riders in order to maintain a really personal service but we cater for larger groups by running subsequent half day rides over the course of a day/weekend and can provide a bespoke itinerary with other activities or overnight accommodation to add to this as required to create your Adventure to Order.

Advanced Riders: If you are an experienced rider looking for an adrenaline rush, we have some great half day rides with some lovely sections for kicking up some mud, cantering through water and jumping some ditches and wee obstacles. So if you want an intense bit of excitement, this can be a good option for you. As an advanced rider our riding holidays are designed with you in mind, to offer you an exhilarating immersive horse experience, so please check out the link for more details.

Intermediate Riders: Whether you are a local or on holiday, our intermediate rides offer an opportunity for you to explore at your pace. We recommend our full day ride as this gives you time to really bond with your horse (be that one of our experienced horses or your own horse) in a new environment. As an intermediate rider our riding holidays are designed with you in mind, to offer you a trilling and fulfilling horse riding experience, so please check out the link for more details.

Beginner/Novice Riders: If you have little or no experience of horse riding we would recommend that you start with a half day ride. Whether you are a local or visitor to the area horseback really is a wonderful way to access parts of the countryside, which are often difficult (or at least a lot of effort) to get to on your own steam. We are also often able to get really close up to wildlife since they do not fear the horses.
