Adventure Summary
Since we moved to Kintyre in the summer of 2019 we have been dreaming of riding across this stunning peninsula and, after all these years building this in our minds eye – finally it is here - our next fantastic holiday creation. For all wildlings old and new – our latest adventure awaits. New routes, new challenges, new friends. Scramble the wilds, gallop the beaches, breathe in the silence of secret glens and sing from the empty hilltops. This is our great Crossing Kintyre expedition. Across the far-flung south-west tip of Scotland, this ride is a week-long exploration of this dramatic back-water as well as a challenge to yourself. Riding from point-to-point, you will get to see the best of this panoramic landscape. Climb heathery hills, swim in the sea, race along the golden sand, find secret ways through uncharted woodland. Over seven days you and your horse will go further into the wilds than you will ever have thought possible by hoof. |
This long and narrow peninsula is never more than 11 miles wide, so you are always close to the sea, with some of the finest island views in Scotland. Its fertile glens encouraged Viking, Scot and Irish settlers. Its rugged rocky coasts attracted fishermen and pirates. Yet you can go down to the beach year-round and still have the scenery to yourself.
At Wilder Ways, we help you to build a relationship with your horse by empowerment through adventure. By steering you through a variety of natural challenges you will learn to trust one another and us, building on those experiences to improve your horsemanship and expand your personal horizons. This holiday includes 5 full days riding adventures, and an exciting rest-day activity (what can it be?) plus 7 nights all-inclusive accommodation. It is action packed and not for the faint-hearted. Be immersed in all things horse within this glorious and beautiful region and let us take you on an adventure of your dreams. |
Although your horse will stay out on the trail, you’ll return each night to our remote, 150 year-old Scottish farmhouse (so you don’t have to keep unpacking) and feast on delicious home grown and local produce morning, noon and night. With comfortable and characterful accommodation and beautifully eccentric hosts, your evenings are as much of an adventure as the riding.
Just bring your appetite for adventure and your love of horses and leave the rest up to us.
This trip is available only to fit and adventurous riders, comfortable at canter. This trip is NOT suitable for beginner or novice riders.
Itinerary
Day 1: Arrive at the farm (check in from 4pm) in time to settle before dinner at 7pm. Relax into your surroundings and let the banter start flowing. Share your own horse history and set your wish list for the trip. Days 2-7: And we’re off. But you won’t find any spoilers here. You will either ride south to north or north to south, and with a little east to west thrown in but where shall we go? Well, that’s the mystery. For us to know and for you to find out on the hoof. It’ll be wild, it’ll be beautiful, it’ll be the stunning West Coast of Scotland. We’ll climb, canter, slide, swim and snuggle with our horses. You’ll learn to trust your steed over rough terrain and feel their strength, their willingness and their companionship. What we can confirm here and now, is that it will be an action-packed adventure full of joy and surprise, in that wild, ‘trip of a lifetime’ kind of way that Wilder Ways is known for. Day 5: A day out of the saddle to stretch your legs but there’s no rest for the wicked. Today you’ll embark on a mystery excursion – what can it be? Day 8: Sadly, the end has come, it’s departure day. After breakfast you can bid farewell to your trusty steed, the farm, the animals and us. Until next time … |
Throughout your trip we encourage you to get your ‘hands dirty’ and look after your horse as if it were your own (don’t worry, we’ll support you to do this). The trust this builds between you and your horse helps to bring the very best out of this journey.
This intense 5 days of riding will leave you feeling exhilarated, empowered and totally in love with your horse.
