Well, that’s a wrap on our 2024 season!
It’s been an entertaining and tumultuous ride this year. We’ve had wonderful guests from all over the world, from Canada to Australia, and from the length and breadth of our little island.
We’ve had some ups and downs with the horses too. Heart-breaking farewells to Mango, Roxi and Rita this year, all of whom gave so much to us over the years. A warm welcome to Ozzie, who’s boundless enthusiasm has made him another favourite. It’s also been Echo’s year. After completing his groundwork training in the spring, he started under saddle and has joined the working herd with a steady and willing intelligence, even coming out to Knoydart with us on the boat for our annual Highland fling! You can read all about his training journey with Nikki here.
Our Knoydart trip was a great success this year with four weeks of adventures up in the mountains, taking our riders though some of the most beautiful and challenging riding Scotland has to offer. And, as ever, the craic was amazing!
We’ve also been deeply involved with an innovative Dutch therapy company, Aerrea, who have worked alongside us, using the horses’ gentle energy and innocent intention to provide emotional healing for people in the medical professions. The success of this ‘therapy’ work has been truly heart-warming, so watch this space as we build this side of Wilder Ways further.
Another highlight for us was the ‘Horsemanship Showcase’, where, for the first time, we attended as demonstrators. In our first demo, ‘How your horse sees you’, Cara showed the importance of ‘feel’ using the 'Nikki's' (Gelati and Lister) as a human horse. This was followed by our talk on ‘the importance of creativity in horsemanship’, a subject that you all know is very close to our hearts and which you can read more about in our ‘for the love of play’ blog series here.
And our own home-grown heroes – the saddle club biggies – have finally started to put in some muscle and help out at the weekends (thanks girls). It’s been wonderful how they’ve given so much fun and understanding to the ‘littlies’ - helping inspire the next generation of Wilderlings!
A huge thank you to everyone who made this year so special, from our incredible guests to our amazing horses. 🐴
